Melbourne RetailTech startup redefining the pop-up shop experience
Project overview
The goal of this project was to develop a web-based booking application for Hawker Spaces, a Melbourne-based company that leases short-term retail spaces for retailers looking to test new markets or for e-commerce retailers looking for a physical space or as an event spac. The company's first location is in Chapel St, South Yarra and they are looking to expand the business model across Melbourne and then Australia throughout 2023. The MVP was developed by collaborating with the founders who are marketing, real estate, and audio-visual professionals.

- Next.js for front-end development
- Supabase for database, storage and authentication
- Square Payment API for payment processing and booking management
One of the main challenges faced during the development of this project was how to onboard users into a new retail booking experience and augment the client's in-person expectations with a new digital experience.
We completed the project from from May 2022 to November 2022 and continue to develop new features as the business evolves.
The project was led by a project manager, designer and a team of two web developers.
Project results
The final web app was successfully launched in November 2022 and has already seen uptake from brands like 2XU, Ah-wear, and Mills & York. The app has streamlined the process of customising and booking retail spaces, and has helped Hawker Spaces to increase revenue and expand their business model.
